What a professional needs to clean your patio and driveway?

Well hello again! If you’re thinking about getting your patio or driveway professionally cleaned — and want it looking absolutely stunning for summer BBQs, Sunday chill-outs, or just general “wow” factor — you’re in the right place.

Grab that cuppa, and let’s talk about what a professional patio and driveway cleaning company needs from you to get the job done right. It’s not loads, promise — just a few simple things that help us work our magic!

Since being part of the team at Art of Clean, I’ve seen patios and driveways of every kind — from classic concrete and resin-bound driveways to character-packed Indian sandstone. And trust me, when they’re clean, they completely transform the look of your home.

So, if you’re planning a patio clean and seal or driveway deep clean, here’s how to help your cleaning team give you the best results possible:

  1. Clear access to your patio or driveway

We know life’s busy, but if you can give us a clear path to your patio, that’s a huge help!

This means moving things like:

  • Garden furniture
  • Pots and planters
  • Toys, ornaments, or even the odd hosepipe

💡 Top tip: If there’s no other way through than the house, don’t panic — just let us know. Our van-mounted machines need hoses to run through from the van to your patio, but for smaller jobs, we may be able to use a portable option. We’ll also need to know about any tight corners, narrow access, or quirky garden steps so we can prepare properly.

  1. Access to water

To give your patio or driveway a clean, we’ll need a water source nearby — ideally an outdoor tap. Our vans do carry water tanks, but larger areas might need more than we can bring.

If you don’t have an outside tap, let us know ahead of time. That way, we can plan to bring extra water or chat through other options before the day.

💦 Bonus tip: During your free quote visit, we’ll check this and other essentials to make sure we’re ready for your specific setup.

  1. Access to power (sometimes!)

Depending on the setup, some patio cleaning equipment may need electricity. But don’t worry — our van-mounted systems are self-powered, which means we won’t be plugging into your sockets and hiking up your electric bill.

Still, if you’re going with another company or doing a DIY clean, check what’s needed before you get started. Power = pressure = proper clean.

  1. Know what your patio or driveway is made of

This one’s more important than you might think. From limestone and sandstone to block paving and pattern-imprinted concrete, each material needs its own approach.

Why? Because:

  • Some surfaces don’t like strong chemicals
  • Others are more porous and need extra sealing
  • Some just need a good rinse and a chat 😄

So, knowing your surface type helps us avoid damage and choose the best cleaning and sealing method. And if you’re not sure? Don’t stress — we can identify it during our visit.

  1. Clear expectations = happy results

Want a driveway that sparkles? Or just want the worst of the moss and grime gone before the next garden gathering? Whatever your goal, let us know what you’re hoping to achieve.

We’ll always aim to go above and beyond — but it’s super helpful to know what matters most to you, whether it’s:

  • Removing stains
  • Restoring colour
  • Prepping for a new sealant
  • Or just a nice freshen-up after winter

Honest note: Sometimes, especially with old stains or deeply worn surfaces, a full transformation may take more than one clean. But rest assured, we’ll always explain things clearly and give our absolute best effort.

  1. Timeframes (especially if you’ve got a deadline!)

Got a party coming up? New garden furniture arriving soon? Let us know as early as you can — especially in spring and summer, as bookings fill up fast!

Tougher stains or larger patios and driveways can take longer to clean properly. Giving us a heads-up means we can:

  • Book the right amount of time
  • Bring everything we need
  • Make sure it’s all done and dry in time for your plans
